We survived our 12.5 hour flight, which was really the shortest flight I ever had since I slept for nearly 10 of them (I did get to see the entire movie "The Life Aquatic", the first half before I fell asleep and the second half once I woke up). No problems catching our bus to the Gold Coast, which is a coastal resort area with lot's of high rise hotels, a long beach, amusement parks, shops and pubs. We got to our hotel at 7am. Check in is at 2pm. But, as soon as the nice host heard that we just got done with a 12 hour journey from LA, she quickly found us an ocean view room on the 29th floor. I think we'll use that excuse every time we check into a hotel. After a long hot shower we explored the town of Surfer's Paradise, laying on the beach and doing a bit of shopping (It's 'winter' here, so we needed a bit more warm clothes. But you can still lay on the beach in 'winter') Other than that, bought a bottle of wine, and now plan on enjoying our deck before dinner and our first experience with Australian beer.
Interesting fact #1: Australians consume more beer per capita then any other English speaking nation. Even more than the Irish, English and Iowans. I think we're going to like it here.
