Last day of the trip. Rain cleared. Breakfast of string hoppers etc before bird watching and leaving at 9.  Stanley stopped for Jaggery and treacle. Beautiful drive throug tea plantations, rubber and rice paddies in first part - road very poor and water damaged. Joined new coastal expressway towards end of journey . Flash motorway opened last year . Drove to Galle and dropped at hotel - right beside rampart of old Dutch fort. The old colonial town I
Side the walls was the only part not damaged by tsunami. Well preserved old town, gracious buildings, but tourist filled. Did bank, bus station , before pottering around old town and around ramparts.
Returned to hotel just as it rained heavily. Read until dinner time when went up road in rain to small cafe selling rotti (chopped up rotis stir fried with veg and egg).
