Wind-mills, Dykes, Boat Sailing & Meetings over Dinner

I am sleeping too less now-a-days. On an average, I have slept about 3 hours since 8 days or so. I feel little tired and thought of having a long nap. However, I could go to sleep only after 3.30am and was out of bed by 6am. I had to get ready to greet my departing friends.

Wind mills at Kinderdijk

On 3rd July, Maurice came to receive us (Archana & me) at De Horst. Sameer, Archana's life-partner, is coming tomorrow as they are going to Switzerland for a holiday. On the way to Dordrecht, we went to see wind mills at Kinderdijk. This is a world heritage centre. Wind mills are national pride for Dutch.

Dinner with Sam & his family

In the evening, we went to Zeist for dinner with Sam van der Meij & his family. Sam, his life partner, Mariott and their daughter, Laura arranged a wonderful dinner for us. Sam is an Information Technology & Energy Management expert as he runs his company. He works with IT & energy companies and government. Sam is also in to politics as he is a council member of Zeist Council. He visited Nirantara during December 2009 and helped us in developing IT Strategy. Mariott is in to coaching professionals and she works with a company. They are married since 30 years. Long back they adopted 2 kids from Srilanka, Lyon and Eric. Now they are 24 & 23 years old respectively and independent. Laura works with KLM Airlines as Cabin Crew and travels across the world. Laura lived at Sam's family for many years and they treat her like their own daughter. I couldn’t meet Lyon and Eric as Lyon recently shifted to a new apartment to live with her boy friend. Eric works in a restaurant and he was on duty.  It was a wonderful evening as we gained in depth insights on Dutch culture. Tasty Indian-Italian & Dutch food satisfied our appetite.

Boat Sailing with Sam & Maurice

On 4th June, we went to do boat sailing in Neuwkoopse plas. Sailing was a new experience and I enjoyed with Sam & Maurice. Sam is an expert sailor and he taught me basics of boat sailing in lakes & sea. Many families in Holland go for boat sailing for the entire day. Some times, they also spend their night as some boats are suitable for long sailing. Upon return to Dordrecht, Maurice introduced me to some of his friends. He has a nice network of friends who are development oriented and philanthropists. Recently, they organized a mega fund raising event for an agency working for children in Sierra Leone. His friends are quite interested in visiting India.

Later we traveled to Maastricht, southern city in the border of Belgium. We are traveling by car of Maurice which he drives usually at 160 km/h. Roads are excellent with all safety measures. Navigators have made life easy. Just enter address of the place (house number, street and city) and they accurately direct you to the destination. I have not seen them in India but heard about them being used in metros.

It was a nice Sunday!
