The breakfast was crazy. They had an omelet and egg bar, turkey ham (Muslim country), beef bacon, fried potatoes, mushrooms, beans, like 10 kinds of fruit, yogurt, cereal, a Chinese breakfast bar (congee and other weird shit), French toast, pancakes, waffles, etc. It was ridiculous! It was good, though, because I was leaving for the Bario, where there would be no more pizza or steak snadwiches to be had. No, the Bario is not an enclave of Mexicans in Borneo. See the next entry.
Like Sibu the swan city and Kuching the cat city, Miri is the seahorse city. I had been sleeping in tiny rooms with dirty walls and flourescent lights and weird bathroom situations for awhile, so I went to the Marriott in Miri. It was about $50 for an ocean view room and it ruled! There was a swim-up bar in the huge pool, the room service was cheaper than McDonald's is at home, and the service was hot shit. Employees all said things like "good morning, sir" whenever I passed them. This hotel is super sweet and I think it would be a good place to stay and visit the local national parks (of which there are 4) and do some diving. There is no weird third-world business (except women getting called "sir"). Even mom and dad would think they were at home. There was a dude from Hawaii working in the hotel restaurant.
