Fri 29.8.08: Peru, Lima/Miraflores: ("Heroic City")

PERSONAL:
Miraflores was nice but too much traffic (what is it about with horns blaring in every direction!) - the smog made breathing very unpleasant.

Though it was very easy to get around (not once was I lost!).

I went for my morning run along the beautiful coastline but it wasn't enjoyable (too many vehicles also travelling alongside the coastline).

Miraflores doesn't have many interesting icons so Lima although polluted, dirty and crowded has more history, culture and character.

The interesting sight would be the local transportation - Whilst the vehicle was still moving, the ticket seller opens the vehicle and yell out the destinations so people can hop in and out (whilst vehicle is still moving!)

Attractions:
Huaca Pucllana (sacred pyramid)

FACTS:
Miraflores District, known for its shopping areas, gardens, flower-filled parks and beaches, it is one of the upscale districts of Lima. Originally founded as San Miguel de Miraflores, it was established officially as a district in 1857. As a result of the Battle of Miraflores fought during the War of the Pacific, Miraflores got the designation of Ciudad Heroica ("Heroic City").

Miraflores has picturesque coastlines (the town is 79m above sea level).

Huaca Pucllana
Huaca Pucllana (formerly Hispanicized as "Juliana") is the only pre-Inca ruin remaining in Miraflores. It is a sacred pyramid, built during the 4th century (and still undergoing excavation). Built by millions of adobe bricks, these ruins once served as an administrative center and a pre-Inca ceremonial site dedicated to the God Pachacamac. The site also housed a living museum showcasing flora and fauna from the Inca time.
