Where I stayed
Wow is Singapore expensive! It is very clean and the buildings are either very tall, new, and impressive or old, colonial and beautiful but you have to have a lot of money to stay and go out here!
On the first evening we walked around Little India and Kampong Glam and smoked grape and mint flavour shisha whilst drinking Moroccan mint tea.
The following day we walked for hours around the city, including Marina Bay where the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel opened last year and Chinatown where we spent some time at the Hindu Sri Mariamman Temple, ironically Chinatown's most recognised and photographed icon.
We sipped Singapore Slings at Long Bar in Raffles Hotel where the cocktail was originally invented by a bartender here sometime around 1915.
One evening we went to the 57th floor of the Marina Bay Sands hotel to take in the spectacular views from their 'Skypark’. The view trumped any high rise city view all holiday, it was incredible! We then went back down to the bottom and outside to the marina to watch their nightly light and water show where fine mists of water were sprayed and used as a screen to project moving images onto. There was fire, lights and music and many spectators!
Then for nearly 24 hours of travelling back to the UK!
