today was the second part of our tour from yogyakarta to ubud (bali). and let met tell you, it was a tough day but spectacular! we got up very early at 3 am. at a 3.45 we were picked up by a jeep which took us to the bromo national park (or something along the lines). when we drove through the villages we saw that therere are hundreds of jeeps everywhere. it's like the village of the jeeps. bromo is a very popular destination for local and international tourists and the locals from the village are well prepared for them! the jeeps take you to a viewing point first, while it's still dark. the streets are so bad that you get knocked around pretty badly. but i think that's part of what makes it so special and so i loved it. daria and i sat in front so we had the shotgun advantage anyways.. hehe.. but riding in the back wasn't so nice or so i'm told. anyhow, we drove up there and then had to walk for a bit to get to the top. all three of us though, that there would be maybe 2 or 3 handfulls of tourists there. well the jeeps already made it pretty clear that that wasn't the case. we weren't prepared for what was to come though. there were sooo many people at the viewing point you could barely see anything. we were asking ourselves if it wasn't maybe a viewing point to see tourists rather than bromo. when the sun began to rise though we were rewarded with an amazing view. from the viewing point you could see mount bromo, one of the most active volcanoes in java and the surrounding volcanoes. let me tell you, it was amazing. it was as if you were looking at a painted picture except you were right in the picture itself. breath-taking! after that we drove to the foot of the volcano from where we walked to the top. there's a set of stairs leading right to the top of the crater. unfortunately the number of tourists which was just incredible before became a real nuisance!! bromo is in the middle of a sort of sea of sand, which is more like a mix between ashes and sand. the stairs are partially covered with it and some steps are even missing making it dificult to mount for elderly and lazy people as well as small children. whereas before the could just take one of the many horses to ride from the car to the stairs they were now forced to used their own to feet. sometimes the lines were blocked and you had to be patient which really was no problem for the large majority. but then you always get a few idiots wherever you go and they were there too, using the opposite stairs and therefore blocking the line coming down. and that continued at the top.. regardless of the fact that there was a crater of a very active volcano right next to everyone people were shoving and forcing their way through. that made me so angry i almost screamed at someone! i managed to stop after shouting "stop pushing!" and successfully managed to leave out all the profanities that were forming in my head en masse. :D anyhow, despite the dangerous amount of people the view was amazing and spectacular and i just can't describe it. you're just going to have to look at the pictures. :)

the rest of the day wasn't too interesting. we went back down to the hotel, grabbed our stuff, had a quick breakfast and drove back to probolinggo, from where we caught the bus to denpasar. it was a very comfortable ride on a nice bus. occasionally there was a kid puking or spitting up or some other funky smell.. :D but we were happy to be on a bus like that with a good driver, security people and an attendant. i don't know, i just felt a lot safer after that other experience. when we got to the ferry i got so excited. you can see bali from java. it's very close. and all i could think was omg omg omg i'm heeeeerreeeeee!!!!! i've been wanting to go to bali for half of my life and i'm not even exaggarating! i remember seeing a small picture of lots of plants and possibly some statue from bali and i just knew i had to come here. everything looked so green on the picture and i knew that i would love it here. so naturally i was very excited. :) when we arrived on the other side we had a few more hours of driving to go. first from the ferry station to denpasar and then from denpasar to ubud. unfortunately our taxi driver must have driven taxis as a hobby because he had no idea where he was going and had to stop every 10 minutes to ask for directions. our hotel was also very difficult to find so he had to call for which he had the nerve to ask for 10-20% more money. we declined. maybe we were horrible and he was very angry for sure but honestly... anyhow, finally at midnight we got here, tired and exhausted after a loooong day. half dead we fell into bed (a beautiful bed in a sort of bungalow) and finally slept, happy to be in bali! <3
