Overnighted back to Bangkok after 3 great days in Pai. Arrived at 5am after the worst bus trip ever. I was in the last row and therefore had no reclining seats. A group of friends were chatting all night and the bus driver was crazy! We were supposed to get in at 7am and some how the driver managed to cut off 2 hours enroute.... Needless to say, I felt my life was in danger for a large portion of the ride.

Checked into Wild Orchid Villa near Koh San Rd and finally caught some shut eye. I was finally about to meet Wendy after more than 6 months of anticipation! So excited! She arrived safe and sound and we were on the streets of Bangkok in no time. After 36 hours of travel she was in good spirits and we caught up over lunch and dinner on Koh San.

The next day we were classic Bangkok tourists. Over to the Grand Palace to see where royalty hang out and the Emerald Buddah. Pretty amazing sites. They love their king here. It's nice to see after so much hatred towards leaders in Canada and the U.S. In the afternoon we rode the long tail ferry boats around the river to try and escape the heat and pollution of the city. Tried to muster up the energy to hit the town that evening but the vibe was not flowing.

Day 3 in Bangkok we had a nice lie in before walking over to the Golden Mountain. It's man made and not really a mountain but more of a building on a hill with great views of Bangkok. It was nice to finally get some perspective on the city as it is so big, spread out and busy all the time. We ventured back to Wild Orchid and prepared for our departure to Kanchanaburi tomorrow.

Bangkok isn't nearly as 'bad' as everyone says it is. It is busy and polluted but there are nice areas, great restaurants and a huge culture that is new and exciting. I'll be back before I fly out to Europe....
