Thursday after UCA camp, I was exhausted! I didn't want to move but I was determined not to take a nap so I headed out for a walk in the neighbourhood where Sarah and Calvin live. I had a great lunch on Crown St. and worked on planning my adventure up the east coast. I went in to Peter Pans Travel (awful name, I know) and talked with a great travel agent for quite some time about options for travel. I couldn't imagine having her job. She probably books the same tours over and over for the same places every week. I would hate it! I came back to Sarah and Calvin's place and then we went out for Thai food with Kristina (another one of Sarah's friends from school) and Kristina's mom. It was great food and I was shocked that I made it through dinner without falling asleep and we even went for drinks after that!

Friday was a lazy day and I was still trying to recover. We hung out in the morning and then headed to the Olympic Park to watch a hockey game. It is almost impossible to find so we were all pumped when it was on! Calgary vs. Detroit, Game 1. Not bad but I am still holding out for the Canucks to be on at some point. From there we went to Liz's (one of Sarah's friends from school) place and she cooked dinner for all of us. So nice of her! It was yum! We caught a bit of a fireworks show that was on for the Royal Easter Show before heading back to Central and home.

Saturday, April 14th. I went back into Peterpans Adventure Travel and purchase a dive course, 4 X 4 tour of Fraser Island and a 3 day sailing cruise of the Whitsunday Islands. These are fairly typical attractions for all backpackers and it did take a huge chunk out of the wallet but I'm told it is essential while you are here. From there, I took a stroll down George Street to The Rocks. It is an old area of town with some of the oldest buildings in Australia. It was gorgeous and I saw 3 different wedding parties getting their photos taken. We went out for a late dinner on Crown St. Thai food again, it was delicious! We went to Scubar that evening. It is a real backpackers bar but my friend from high school, Sam Schroeder was there. It was great to see him, catch up, he is in law school here. Another friend from Trek was also there, Nick Menzies. He is all grown up, as I hadn't seen him in about 7 years. He has been living in a hostel in Bondi for the past 3 months. Great to see him too. It was a fun night!

Sunday I got picked up just before 11am to go to a dance workshop with Michelle who I met at UCA camp. Her daughter, Kareeba, was participating so we went to see what it had to offer. It was a great day with tons of dancers there. The instructors were from the US and seemed awesome! I wish I could have participated but I didn't know it was going on! We also ran into Pip, a member of the University of Sydney Cheer Team, who we also met at UCA camp. She was preparing for practice so I went and watched and helped a little with their practice. I was fairly exhausted by the end of the day and happy to get home to relax!

Monday April 15th was a total write off. I just didn't want to do anything so I hung with Calvin in the apartment for the day. Writing in my journal, sorting out travel plans and just relaxing! It was nice!

Tuesday I was little more motivated and decided to walk the Sydney Harbour Bridge! First I made a stop at Peterpan again to purchase my 2 month bus tickets to get up the east coast. Plans are getting for solidified. I then went to do the bridge. It was awesome! A gorgeous day and no better way to see the harbour than from up there. It is a beautiful harbour with lots of great scenery. I spent a little time poking around North Sydney including at Luna Park which is an amusement park that has been around for over 100 years. I walked back over the bridge and picked up some groceries for dinner. Great Day!

April 17th was a big day. I sorted out more travel plans, where I was going to stay and such on my first stop. I then grabbed a bus to Coogee Beach which is the major beach south of Bondi. There is a 6km walk from Coogee to Bondi that I wanted to do, there it was! It was a great day for it, not too hot and sunshine! The beaches were awesome with people swimming, surfing, snorkling and having a good time. I spent some time haning on Bondi at the end of the walk, writing in my journal and realxing. Then home again for yummy food and sleep time!

Thursday April 18th: Needed to get a few things done for my trip. Sarah and I went out for breakfast at my favortie spot in Sydney: Taste. They have the best yogurt and berries. It is so good! I stayed for a bit there, wrote some post cards and such before heading to enquite about a booster vaccine for when I go to Thailand and then about working (yes, I might have to bite the bullet and actually find a job....) at the Travellers Contact Point. A great reference place that I'm glad I found. From there I headed to the Thai Consulate to investigate my visa for when I head there in June. They were not very helpful but I pushed to get all the information I needed. It was a nice enough day out so I went down to the Botanical Gardens again to try to get some better views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Very enjoyable and I was shocked to see thousands of BATS hanging out in the park. Someone said to me "Oh, don't worry, they're just fig bats." didn't make me feel any better. They look huge and scary to me. Craziness I tell you. I went and sat on the Opera House steps to watch the sunset and ended up meeting a girl named Sarah from the UK. She had just finished the east coast and was heading to New Zealand so we exchanged the good, the bad and the ugly. Always good to get some pointers! From there, I booked it home (p.s. Aussies don't know what "booked it" means.....hee hee) to have some dinner and watch The Office. Great day!

Today: Friday. Heading up the coast tonight on the overnight bus. I'm pretty excited but I am going to miss Calvin and Sarah. I've had a great time staying with them here. I have to go back to the Thai Consulate to finish up on my visa and then we think there is a Canucks game on at 3pm. Wooooooooo hooooooo! I hope it works out!

Sydney has been very enjoyable! I'll be back in June for a few more days before I head to Thailand. Sarah and Calvin have been great hosts!
