Where I stayed
What I did
Today we flew out of JFK Airport to Seattle. Good to get out of the New York humidity and high temperatures. Weather in Seattle much more manageable, much more like the UK but with sun.. which makes a difference. And Seattle felt very European and reminded us of Bristol.
Seattle not so large so we walked down to the waterside which is part of the Puget Sound and watched the ships sailing in and out. Many of them ferry ships taking cars and passengers to the San Juan Islands which we hear are very beautiful. Then pottered around Seattle's Pike Place market. Essentially it's a fish market but also sells flowers, vegetables, crafts and jewellery. So plenty to look at. Had lunch at a fish restaurant overlooking the bay. I'm now beginning to get used to ordering a tuna salad and the tuna not just coming out of a can - real tuna steaks. Neil had Dungeness Crab Cakes - not crab from Dungeness UK but a Dungeness which we will be passing on our route tomorrow. Found the car rental place which was only a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Someone (cannot guess who?) had planned this well. Picking up the car in the morning at 8 a.m to head west and find route US101.
