We get to the boat jetty - with Sabine hobbling, weight baring at least.  We know that on the Gilli islands there is no jetty and you get off the boat into shallow water, which is no good - we get a plastic bag and tape ready - just like getting a kid ready with a plaster cast on into the bath! We get on the boat, and I spot life jackets! wooo! the journey takes just over an hour - and Sabine is getting stared at by many! A doctor on the boat asks if the knee is infected, he saw us last night in the restaurant and didn't think it looked good - I piped in reassuring him it was healing nicely actually! - again what kind of doctor he was I don't know but the wound was healing as it should, so he missed that lecture!  We safely get to Gilli Trawangan - I tape up Sabines ankle, but one of the crew actually carried her off! We sat her at a bar and started our search for a place to stay.
I think I expected something else, as I was not at first impressions excited about being there - I think some of it probably was knowing that Sabine would not be able to enjoy it with us.  Any way we found somewhere close to the beach, at $25 a night for all of us in a fan room in a little bungalow.  I was not 100% happy with it, I wanted something similar to the bungalows we had on Lazy Beach in Cambodia - but hey - we found somewhere.  We go out for lunch on the beach and emotions overwhelm Sabine - seeing the beautiful turquoise water and the beach, and knowing she could not go in - I really felt for her - it much have been torture, she couldn't even cool off in the shower as yet - me and Aly find it difficult to find the right words to comfort her - she would not be able to enjoy the beach at all  - when her wounds heal, she would be back in Australia.  I suddenly feel guilty for bringing her here.We bum around for the first day, exploring a little bit - the next day we set Sabine up with the computer again and she was within easy walking distance if she wanted anything - we rent a snorkel and explore the reef just offshore  the reef was not special but there was a drop off which was pretty cool, and it was all so clear, and there were a few fish around.  Seeing as Aly on had a few days here, she wanted to go to the other Islands, Gili Meno and Gili Air - the one we were on Gili T was known a the busier islands, more places to eat, and has a party vibe, Meno is the smallest and Air is in between.  We go to Gili Meno for the day getting on a boat that has seen far too many winters as the expression would go, it was only 10 minutes to get there and we could swim should the need arise!  I also start weighing up how I could lug my case onto the boat, as I had been reducing what is in my case over the past week getting rid of my hiking boots, trousers, jeans, and other random stuff not needed - We arrive safely onto Meno and instantly the vibe feels much better.  We had our snorkels in hand and we set off exploring the island, it would take 2 hours to walk around the whole island! We spot a place to snorkel which was ok, and we soak up the little sun there was, it was quite cloudy, but still so hot and humid, we chill out, eat a bit and swim, it starts to sink in a little about where we are and actually how beautiful it really is.  We continue around the island and I start asking around for potential places to stay, already much cheaper then Trawangan, and I find the little bungalows I wanted from the beginning.  We find another beautiful snorkel spot, but it was low tide and it was so shallow we were scared of getting caught on the reef, so I make a personal vow to come back to the island, I like the vibe and tranquility on here, and we meet a dutch girl Nicoletta, who tells me of bungalows for 75,000 a night, bargain - I'm coming back! We quickly race around the last part of the island to get the ferry back to Gili T - unfortunately we went the wrong way round, as this side of the island is much nicer, with a bigger beach and nice snorkel spots - no matter, I will be back!   That night, me and Sabine force Aly to the Italian restaurant, they didn't do pizza.... But the gnocchi I had was pretty good, Aly thought it was OK! Italians!  It was time for Sabine's first dressing change, she was not looking forward to it, but she saw me eying it up, if a little excited - ha ha - It was looking good, there is a funny picture of me with my head torch on inspecting the wound! It didn't look as bad as she was thinking. We go off to Gili Air the next day, which had a pretty good vibe and some really good snorkeling spots, I kept making a point of wanting to spot a turtle as there are quite a few around the islands, but no luck, we saw some cool fish though, after lunch the water was quite rough, so no more snorkeling, and soon it was time to get back for the boat we head off for a little drink that evening as it was Aly and Sabine last evening.
The next day my boat leaves first - I decided to go to Gili Meno - I get waved off by Aly and Sabine, making promises to visit when we all get home.  No worries with the bag!  Here I go off on my own again!  By 10.15 I was in my little Bungalow, which is fairly open, with an open bathroom, I meet my little friend a largish gecko - who I know will eat all the bugs, so he was quite welcome - then off to the beach!  This is the routine everyday!  I would get up for brekkie usually an omelet or Honey pancake with an iced coffee. Then off to soak up the sun! I hired out  a snorkel and went to the best spots around the Island - wow!  surrounding all the islands is a drop off point, where u can just see into the deep blue! its amazing! - The snorkeling is amazing soooooo clear and often quite calm, it just an underwater world, full of colors and different corals and lots of fish - and on two occasions I saw turtles!!! He was massive and just swimming fairly close to me - then he would go off into the abyss, while I struggled to follow him - and he was off! I also saw a sea snake!!! quite a long one, right on the bottom - it was quite deep at this point, but still so very clear - so I was not worried about him coming after me! In Aus I know they are dangerous, I didn't know about this one!  I could have spent hours in this particular spot, there was so much to see and it was pretty mesmerizing, I didn't really have the same feeling about the great barrier reef or the ningaloo reef - there was something special about these ones.  The reef was about 150m off the beach, and I know the current could be strong, getting back always made me tired, so I didn't always get as long on the reef as I may have liked, as I had to think about getting back!  Some of the reefs had cages at the bottom, not exactly sure what they were for, but the fish enjoyed them!  I wish I had a camera to remember these reefs - they were the best I have seen.  The light just bounces through the water making them so so clear - this is one of the only times I had the burning desire to go diving, but my ears would not allow it, shame, I think it would have been amazing!  I still cant get over the reefs - just spectacular!  I think I must have been spoilt for traveling for 12 months, as at first the islands didn't impress me, they now do, and really are beautiful, the water is so blue and clear, and refreshing!I often met Nicoletta for dinner and on the beach, not everyday, I think we both understood while it was nice to have company sometimes, it was also nice being alone and doing our  own thing, the evening would normally consist of me playing catch up on this bloody blog! - I know if I don't write it I will forget most things by next year!  Then off to dinner - I'm really watching the pennies now, there is no ATM on this island, so I am left with a budget of just over 6 per day until I get back to Sydney - which will give me brekkie, lunch and dinner - but no more! luckily there is nothing I want to buy here, and no more massages for me :( but I think I have had my fair share! I'm quite happy to lay on the beach all day and splash in the water and read my books - the true last holiday before I get back into the swing of things back home - which I am very excited about! which surprises me! I remember talking to a girl last year in my position now, and I said to her, I think I will be so depressed to go back home, poor u - actually, I'm very excited to be seeing everyone and catching up on what I have missed out, and plus there is quite a bit of excitement happening when I do get back, Wends wedding, and now also Cat's wedding - oooo, I get to show off me tan! I got up to see the sunrise, which was nice, It was nice seeing Mount Rinjani, one of the volcano's I wanted to climb, but it was quite expensive, and long! So i settled for the nice view, as usual I take far too many photos, and the fear sets in with what I am going to do with all these photos...! I head off to bed for a couple more hours and then I get up to read another book and sun myself, I thought it would be cool to see the sun set all in the same day, which was not the best I have seen, (Sea bird in WA with Cat was a pretty sweet sunset) but the colors after it had set were really nice.  I'm managing on the little money I have, even enough for a chocolate pancake desert! no beer though :( - I don't think its very strong though - I'm sure my friend who saw me fly in Kuta would disagree!I arrive home on the 13th June - my mother thinks I arrive back on the 22nd! - SURPRISE! I'm actually getting a bit nervous about it! wondering how she will react as she will not be expecting it! Do u think its evil?!
