5th July After meeting at the airport the coaches picked us up and headed down to Redlands - I sat next to Kempy from my university on the way to our induction and settled her nerves and worries for the forthcoming summer. The journey took just less than 2 hours where we were greeted by Gary for an induction. The day seemed to drag by despite being only half a day long as I was knackered. I had to share a room with Georgia where we had an interconnected bathroom with two other girls - Helen and Michelle. I was a bit disappointed with the food this year - it was amazing last year however it was all you can eat. I decided to get an early night after a long day.
6th July - another early start at 8am where we had to perform a full day of lectures. Today was a bit more enjoyable as we got to go outside for a few hours - it seemed a lot cooler the weather here than last year as it was in the low 90's as opposed to the 100's however it is still too hot to be running around playing football. Today we began our directors training - it seems very complicated. I am happy to lead a few camps here and there but there appears to be a lot of paperwork - which I don't like too much as it takes away from the fun.
7th July Today we had to perform a session which was to be assessed before resuming with our intense directors training. Since arriving in the US I have struggled to find healthy food and today at dinner time I got the closest that I ever had - deep fried broccoli - never had that before.
8th July Today was the last day of the inductions - it finished at 11. After collecting all my bags I headed down to our car to meet my other coaches in my cluster - Beth and John. As we weren't provided with a SatNav we headed down to Target where we picked up some snacks and a SatNav. We planned on travelling to Malibu beach before we had to be at the playing fields for 5-6ish however we left quite late so decided we best head straight there. The car park at the playing fields was packed so after trying to get a spot for over 30mins we decided to head to a Del Taco - I got a strawberry lemonade which had real strawberries at the bottom - it was very good. We were then assigned our families - I was placed with the same family from last year with Beth and John. The camp is a lot smaller this year - last year we had 7 coaches - we also met the two other coaches at the playing fields - Nick and Jack. We then chatted to the family it was hilarious listening to some of Pauls views - he witted on for ages but we had to laugh as some of his views were near the knuckle.
