The weather never got any better as the days went on. all raining unfortunately.
It didnt stop us though. On monday we went over to Alcatraz which was really amazing. When we saw the island from land it didnt look that bad. but once we got there it became a different story. there were hundreads of tiny cells. each one just a bit over 6 feet high and 6 feet wide. they were horrible.
we got the chane to go into the isolation ward too and you could stand in the cells that are even smaller that the other ones, but these dont even have any lights. we heard a story of one of the inmates taking the button off his top when he went intot he isolation cell. all he did for 5 whole days was throw the button in the air and try to find it on the floor... the place really sent you crazy
at the end of our tour the last thing to see was the shutting of the cells. the noise from the doors was terrifying! we have that on video so make sure you check it out!
while we were there we "biked the bridge". thats the Golden Gate bridge. we did a 6 mile bike ride in total in the wind and the rain. on the way over the bridge we could only see about 5 metres in front of us. but on the way back it cleared nicely so we were able to see alcatraz on the way back. the ride went really well until we were on the home stretch... i was going down a path and need to get over to the otherside so to do this i had to cross some tram lines... sounds easy hey? well the tyre slipped on the edge of the line and i went straight off and my hip landed on the handle bars, so now ive got a lovey and very painful purple bruise and a cut and bruised knee too. i was sooo embarressed!
if anyone eer goes to san fran, you must try the clam chowder in sour dough bowl. it is just the best thing. also try the oysters. they are so cheap. each one in a restaurant is the equivilent of 75p!
