Our first stop on our list is the Cosmopolitan city of Melbourne. Its ok here, the weather is being great to us. Its basically just a huge huge city. We have hired a camper van which we pick up on the 24th March. We are then going to go round the whole country in 5 months working on different fruit farms as we go around. Its gonna be tough but i think its the best way to see the country!
We went to an Aussie Rules match last night which was fantastic. We went to the Telstra Dome which has a capacity of 50,000. It was great fun. We have tickets to the Grand Final of the Cup on saturday 17th too.
We went on the Neighbours tour yesterday which was fantastic. It is apparently one of Victoria's most popular tours with the english and the irish. Paraic wasn't up for it as he doesn't watch it but i thought it was great. Got great pics for you all. We met Dr K after the tour also which was a great suprise!
We have just got back from the practice day of the Melbourne Grand Prix. Had a very good day watching the cars wizz past. Got to see the real drivers too, which is unusual as they usually send out tester drivers on this day. But its the fist race of the season so they are all getting in as much practice as possible. There were loads of displays with old cars, that i didn't like really but paraic did. I got my picture taken with my future car, the Aston Martin Db9. Oh yes, there were loads of promo girls too but paraic was to shy (or maybe to scared of my reaction) to get his picci taken with them, ahh! Oh yes, Happy St Paddy's day to all the irish that read this (paraics family and friends).
We have also been to the National Bank of Australia Cup Final between Brisbane Lions and Carlton. Carlton play in blue and white so i was going for them and we won!! Great match again and our tickets were free too as paraics uncle used to play professional footi so he gets them for us. We spent St Paddy's night there and the went on to an irish bar (of course) with some friends we met in fiji. Paraic only got to have a couple of pints as the footi was on till late so he was upset. his worst paddy's night ever apparently.
Just to round off our sports weekend we went to watch the womens syncro 10 metre dive final. that was amazing stuff. i have wanted to watch that live for years too. england we just as bad as in anything else we ever try to do. they were in 4th after three dives and i thought we were gonna get a medal, but no they had to blow it on the next 2 dives. oh well, im sure we will have the same duo diving again for us at the next championships. Australia came 2nd and one of the pair is only 14 yrs old! still had a good night tho.
Well we have been on the road for the last few weeks and we are loving it. we made it into the outback on our first day of driving and that was an experience let me tell you. saw so many dead roos which was so sad. we were planning on stopping for a couple of weeks in a place called Mildura to do some fruit picking there, but when we had arrived we were told that there season was going to be late starting due to the drought they are in (no rain for 3 years). so anyway we decided to keep on going and head over to queensland to work there.
we ahve been stopping in various overnight rest areas along the way, which are handy (and more importantly free). these rest areas are in the bush just off the road. sometimes there are people there with you which is nice other times we were on our own which is a little scary. our first night in the outback went fine. did a bit of outdoor cooking too.
this is the last time we will be in Victoria until we meet back up with Paraics parents at the end of June!
