Hello one and all,

This is just Nick today as Vanessa is nursing a hangover (again) - the one pound fifty bottles of wine and 1 litre bottles of beer really are a lethal combination in Argentina. Yes thatīs right we have crossed the border from Chile in to Argentina, via some beautiful scenery in the Lake District (maybe like the English one, but times the scale by 20) with volcanos dotted around you, and blue lakes appearing round every corner.

So, we are now in the town of Trelew, which believe it or not was settled by the Welsh (they get everywhere) although its been kinda handy (begrudgingly) claiming I am welsh, what with Argentines maybe still a bit tetchy about the Faulklands (hence the Basil Fawlty impressions of "whatever you do, donīt mention the war....")

Anyway, we spent a day or so more at a Chilean town called Valdivia, where sea lions come and pinch fish from the fish market held next to the river. Then we spent a couple of days in a town called Bariloche (Argentina), which is a real Swiss style ski resort (in winter anyway) and has chocolate, cake and jams everywhere. Then headed on to a hippy-ish place called El Bolson, which was in a really beautiful valley that formed its own microclimate, so the locals could grow strawberries, apples, blackberries etc..... We went horseriding which was great fun, although Vanessaīs horse, affectionately known as Gillette (the best a man can get?!?) seemed more interested in eating rose hips than moving anywhere.

Anyway, enough talking - I ought to go and see if Vanessa has woken up from her hangover sleep. Tomorrow weīre off to see half a million penguins (literally) at Punta Tombo...
