We finally got to Bluefields at about 6.30am and assumed we would be able to get straight onto a panga to Rama, but we had to wait 3 hours until they had enough people to fill it... most of them had left at dawn, so we were a bit late for them. We arrived in Rama after 2 hours, and the German surf dudes getting angry with the boatmen for not being super careful with their surf boards... and were told that the "bus directo" didnt go until 4pm, a 5 hour wait. They told us there wasnt another one, but we ignored them and went around the corner to the market, where lo and behold, there was a bus going to Managua, via another town - Juigalpa, but taking the same time... so we got a few snacks and drinks and jumped on...
We arrived at about 6ish and got a taxi to the Tica bus station, where we were hoping to buy a ticket for 50 dollars (as we had seen online) to Guatemala, via el salvador (which meant avoiding the capital of Honduras which was our aim, as it isnt the most politically stable place at the moment... but the man at the desk made up the price to be 80 dollars... and mentioned that the website says the prices can change anytime... git! - we ended up booking with the company across the road, just because they seemed much more honest, and paid 35 dollars to get to san salvador...
We checked into our hostal, in a really dodgy area, the hostal recommended taking nothing with you apart from the money you needed for dinner or wherever you were going, and putting it in different pockets around your body... and everywhere was locked and guarded, and the streets were dark and horrible... we went out for some dinner, then got accosted by a homeless man begging, we just hurried back to our locked hostal and got some sleep. I think I was more scared going out at 4am, back up the road to the bus terminal,as there were less people about, but we made it and got on the bus to san salvador - 11 hours...
It took 12 hours, the lady (our hostess) ripped us off for 6 dollars each, I asked a few times what for, as we dont need to pay to go into El Salvador or to leave Nicaragua, but she kept yapping at speed, and for once, I was just too tired to argue..., we were given some kind of eggy burger for breakfast, and snacks, we bought a big bottle of rum from duty free to take home with us (unless we cant wait...!) and went through Honduras and into El Salvador... arriving at about 5pm... exhausted!!
