Hi All,

It's been a while since our last blog, but that’s because we’ve been so busy!

We stayed in Byron Bay for two nights in a hostel that can only be described as 'a bit of a dive’. Byron Bay was great though. It’s apparently where Australia’s hippy attitude came from, and you can see that straight away. Everybody was wearing tie-die and had dreadlocks! We went for a long walk along the beach at Byron Bay and then Amy decided it would be a good idea to climb over the rocks around the bay. After of an hour and after both nearly falling to our deaths, we made it round. Not such a relaxing walk!

Cooked pasta in the scummy hostel for tea and then went out for drinks at the local pub. At the pub we learnt an important lesson. Never drink imported beer. A bottle of Magner’s was $8! They had a live band, which was a group of the local old codgers playing together, but they were awesome!

After Byron, we headed up the coast to Surfers’ Paradise. I had promised Amy that as we moved North the weather would get warmer, in actuality, as soon as we arrived in Surfers' it began to piss it down! Luckily, as it was Amy’s birthday the next day, I had booked us into a nice hotel for two nights, as a change from the hostels, so it was a nice place to pass the time, while it rained.

The next morning we woke to see that the sun had decided to come out in time for Amy’s birthday. Amy opened her cards and some perfume from me and then we headed out for the day. Went to ‘Wet n’ Wild’ water park and spent the afternoon riding the most extreme water slides in Oz. I have no problem in confessing that on a couple of the rides I screamed like a little girl! Went back to the hotel in the afternoon to get ready for Amy’s birthday celebrations that night. We’d arranged to go on a massive bar crawl, which included free drinks in all the bars and free entry and bowling. Safe to say Amy and I both got totally mushed and had the obligatory Doner Kebab as we stumbled back to the hotel.

Next, onto Hervey Bay! Woke up early this morning and after a couple of paracetemol were on our way north. Before setting off I nearly got a $300 fine for not wearing my seatbelt. In my defense, I was just driving out of the hotel car park and a rozzer just happened to be walking past…balls. Blagged my way out of getting the fine. Phew!

Drove up to Brisbane, where we stopped to meet up with one of Amy’s Uni friends, Alice, who is traveling the east coast too. After, we carried on up the coast and made it to Hervey Bay, which is a little town, where we can get the ferry to Fraser Island in the next couple of days. Staying in another hostel, but this one is a bit special. All the rooms are little individual cabins and it’s nothing like the scummy one at Byron Bay!

Going to spend a couple of days here before we head up to Yeppoon, where we’re staying with my Auntie.

Ben on

So you finally succame to pasta meals. Trust me you will never want to eat pasta again!! I think I now remember why me and Thom skipped some of these towns and it's because we have an irrational fear of hippies! Did you not have a Byron Burger in Byron Bay. Disappointed. If you'd said I would have Fedexed you a couple in...

Keep em coming guys!!
