We thought that we had better get our skates on and head south so headed off to Bordeaux. We promptly got lost because we thought it would be a nice idea to take the smaller roads south and take in a bit of the countryside and drop in at a few of the local towns along the way for lunch like Loches, a medieval fort. The only problem was that the French map that the guy at Avis gave us was ten years old and not very detailed so most of the roads we were driving down were not on the map. The end result was that a two and a half hour trip via the freeway took up six hours via the back roads. We finally got to Cognac which was a great town, with nice people and really good places to stay, and yep we tried a bit of the local tipple.
