We woke up early this morning and continued to drive south through the islands. The day started out normal, but the afternoon became a little bit different than most. The only way off the Outer Banks if you drive all the way south is by ferry. Not just one ferry, but we rode two of them today.
To be honest, it was quite nice to travel other than pedal to the medal in the van. It was quite a bit slower than driving. We only went 23 miles in 2 hours, but it was still a nice change of pace and scenery. We were watching dolphins jump and follow the boat on the first ferry. On the second one we decided to catch a few Z's. Pretty sure we haven't taken an afternoon nap since we left.
We were able to hang out in Ocracoke for a few hours before we boarded. It's pretty much a pirate happy island, every where you look you can buy any pirate gear you could imagine. It is the place where Black Beard's ship was sank, we just missed a huge pirate festival on the island. To bad, that would have been pretty awesome....
As soon as we got off the boat we headed farther south down the coast. We ended up in Wilmington NC, which we plan on checking out more tomorrow.
Till then,
Nic and Jess
