Where I stayed
Back on the farm... but in a bed!
I arrived after an hour’s flight down in Christchurch to be greeted by the ever-smiling Dewi and Jenny. So lovely to see them both again. We have a nice catch up in the car on the way back to Rakaia, they’ve both been so busy since I last saw them, and now are finally on a short break before hurtling off to the UK for work in the New Year.
I realised I left pretty much all of my toiletries in between Melbourne and Auckland, departing in a rush is not good for my organisation skills. So we make a few stops to pick up what I need and soon we’re back at the farm through the blissful NZ sun.
We stop to see Ioee in the fields. He’s so tanned! I want me some of that! Back at the farm and I meet Ioan’s new girlfriend Caz, she’s from Matamata originally but was working down here on a neighbouring farm. Rally sweet girl and she makes Ioee happy so that’s good to see. I have quick catch ups with Rhys and Kiri before departing for bed. I’m so wiped after having about 9hours sleep in three days.
The rest of the family peters through and it’s so nice to see them all again. Kiri tells me there’s a party tonight for the farm-workers up at the shed… cow shed? I freshen up regardless of the location and head down. All the workers I met last time are there and we have a few drinks and fush and chups in the shed. It’s so nice to just relax, knowing I don’t have anything to worry about tomorrow. Jenny is planning a trip to get the Christmas food tomorrow to Ashburton so I’ll tag along to check e-mails and send research back to work.
