Another restless night’s sleep so we were late to start this morning. It’s always quite nice to stay over somewhere for 2nights as there’s not the morning panic of working to a 10a.m. deadline to get off site. We caught the bus into Wellington, and went to the Te Papa art gallery. Mainly based on Moari culture and a nice free collection of, oh, countless exhibitions! We all lost each other quite a few times. Helen told me how she’d passed mum and said hello to her, but she walked past, unblinking. I’m not convinced it was mum! We left the gallery at 3:30 p.m. and I was exhausted, so went back to the campsite and left mum and Helen to explore further without my whinging. The rain is really coming down tonight, hopefully it’ll ease off for the crossing tomorrow. It’s a while since I was on a ferry, hmmm, Seacat maybe? It would have been one of the Waterfield-family holidays though. Mum and Helen want to go to the site’s restaurant tonight for dinner… then hopefully a lovely night’s sleep will follow. Our ferry is at 1ish tomorrow and takes 4hours to reach the South island, by which point it will be dark so I’m not sure how far we will be travelling. The plan is to travel down the west coast to the most southerly point, then work our way over Eastwards to the farm where Rhys, Dewi, Jenny, Ioan and Rhi will be. Can’t wait! Not sure what the internet will be like for the rest of the trip. Apparently it’s not great in the South island, but will update when I can!
