Michael and I headed from switzerland's interlaken all the way to milan (for several hours) to visit the Duomo... then we got on another train to venizia... got there, booked a room, turned around got on the train, went to the town of.... thinking...
Mestre (thanks to an online italian naval map)... spend two nights in a great, cheap place in mestre... we walked probably 10km in venice from what we calculate (~6 miles, pardon)... it is a mess of roads, canals, building, and people... very beautiful... very romantic, so fyi/recommenation: have a someone. ciao.
