What I did
Farewell Wagga
After almost 6 months in the making & the count down was on, I was finally ready to bid farewell to my friends & family in Wagga. After many weeks of unpacking and repacking my bag it wasn't until a few nights before I was due to leave Wagga when one of my 'well traveled' friends Sara-Jane asked me what my bag weighed, She laughed when I shrugged my shoulders and said "Nez that's the whole idea of pre-packing". With so much to organise and think of it didn't occur to me to weigh my bag, so I strapped on my new best friend & on the scales we hopped. I was under 20kg but the voices of my 'well traveled' friends echoed in my ear .." wash and wear….remember you have to carry all of this on your back" with this in mind I was able to zip the bag closed minus a few more outfits. Now having had a girlfriend check out my packing skills, it was time for a male to give the bag the once over. Dan came over and he was impressed with how little I was taking on my Euro trip, and I was impressed that he was impressed. Lets face it guys a much more practical thinkers and always seem to pack much lighter then females, its got to be a fact -right? Somehow though he managed to convince me to cull further when I didn't think anymore culling was possible. He suggested I pack a light weight rain jacket, which I didn't have so he lent me one of his to take on my adventure.
Saturday 25th June PaRtY TiMe!! The last six months have been full of social events, parties, a few too many drinks and not much sleep! My farewell was no exception and in retrospect it felt like a real pinnacle in my 27th year on this earth. It marked a new chapter and represented so many things for me. I celebrated with some of my beautiful friends and family and felt privileged to be able to share some of my inner most feeling with them through my music, for many years I have been wanting to whip my voice in shape and become as fearless as some of the characters I have played on the stage. To be able to express myself authentically bypassing the sensory part of my brain where fear resides, after all I believe that it is fear that holds us back from shining in our magnificence that is unique to each and every one of us. It became crystal clear to me that I had been allowing fear to rule my life for far to long after missing out on the opportunity to voice a student animation because of the old "F.E.A.R"! It was at this moment that I picked up the phone to make what proved to be an important phone call which resulted in a month of music, fun, friendship & The HummingBirdZ! Within a month of jamming with Daniel Tooze (a very talented Wagga musician) we had twelve songs, from a collaboration of some lyrics & melodies that I had recorded on my iPhone during random moments of inspiration.I had mentioned to Daniel sometime ago that I had a few 'diddies' (as I liked to refer to them) and he excitedly replied 'great lets put some music to them'! I thought he was being very nice, thanked him & thought 'wow wouldn't that be fantastic' although I thought I would need to get my voice in shape before actually ever putting myself out there & I certainly didn't feel 'good enough' to be 'jamming' with Daniel, besides I had never actually 'jammed' before in my life! Fast-forward a month ...& we are playing at my farewell! With the help of Alissa we pulled together a last minute shin-dig & the mood was set at Crampton st. A few vinos, good company & a few acoustic sets by Toozie & then we were ready to play. Enter the HummingBidrz! My friends gathered eagerly outside huddling around the mushroom heater ready to hear what the Hummingbirdz were all about. I was a little nervous as I sat next to Daniel moments before we started to play….'breath & smile' I tell myself…'oh shut-up head..blah blah…not listening, not listening' another breath…'wow I think I need another drink'. So much swirling in my head 'is everyone enjoying themselves', 'is there enough food', 'hmm I think I need to go to the toilet', 'I think I should repack the black dress..one should always travel with a black dress-right?! Ahhhh crap sing sing….'what are the lyrics'…'umm make it up..that's right it our song…right on'!!! Before I knew it we had played all 12 songs, sure they were far from perfect but for me it was more about sharing with those closest to me what we had created so far. It was a real buzz! DJ TRAX (Benny) was a gem and busted some great tunes for us on the decks before we headed to the club. It was a massive night & a great way to bid farewell to good 'ol Wagga Wagga!
