Not sure if I mentioned the Vigeland Sculpture park we visited in Oslo. Well worth a visit, and it continued the trend of nude statues we had already noticed. Not sure why in such a cold place.
Anyway we left Oslo early on a fine morning expecting to be at our destination early afternoon. We were travelling on the Bergen train to Myrdal and then catching the train on the very scenic route down to Flåm which is at the head of a fjord. About 4 hrs in we had to disembark as there had been an avalanche further up the line. Noone really seemed to know what was going on so we waited on the station for some buses to come, then we were told the train would run, so there was a stampede back to it complicated by the fact that some of it had gone on and there now weren't enough seats. After a brief wait on the train we were told it would be buses so off we went again to try and find seats for the 3 of us on the one bus. We waited a bit longer while they waited to hear if we could get across the pass at the shortest route. Off we set still in fine weather but soon we were seeing lots of ice and then lots of snow. We caught up with a number of buses and cars and had to wait while they took 25 across at a time behind a snow plough. We waited about 2 hours and then it was our turn. We were almost across when news came of another avalanche and we had to turn back and return to the station where we had started. I could go on but we did get to Flam about 10.30 that night after the railways organised some transport for us. We missed our scenic trip that day but organised to do it the next day and it was worth the wait. There wasn't a lot to do in Flam, mainly relax. The next day we headed towards Bergen with the first part of the journey being a spectacular fjord cruise. We have had a lovely few days in Bergen, though unfortunately many of its attractions are closed. We would have liked to see the leprosy museum. It is a very attractive city with lots of colourful wooden buildings. We are off on a ferry to Stavanger this afternoon.
