What a day! Jess and I woke up to crazy amounts of rain and the cleaner walking into our room (after we didn't answer the door as we were still sleeping!!!) anyways we turned the tv on to check weather updates etc and we became a little bit scared....the area we were in was expecting severe thunderstorms and a possibility of a tornado!!!! Ermmm scared much? Me and Jess had discussed what to do if we were to come across a tornado whilst driving but I was not really prepared to stop and dive into a ditch for shelter...think of all the mud?! Haha

We spoke to the reception guy who told us that the storm was moving east of us and as we were driving west we should be fine! Still...i kept looking around whilst driving justttttt incase!

Packing up the car was a treat – especially in the rain and with massive puddles on the floor. There were some rather lovely looking builder/gardner people doing some stuff in the truck next to us..which made our experience worse as we didn’t want to look stupid but thats not really possible...

As we were driving out of the Weatherford area it was kind of fascinating seeing the change in the weather....all we could see in the car mirrors was really dark scary clouds and ahead of us bright white cloudy blue skies....

Our first stop was Clinton for the Route 66 Museum which was amazing! I was having a ball of a time with all the music that played the whole way round (Hotel California and Elvis' Heartbreak Hotel)! It really was a cool lil museum that told us about the beginnings of the route and the changes throughout each decade! I specifically liked the hippie era...was very fun!

After Clinton we drove to Elk City (the last 'big’ city along the route in Oklahoma). We were trying to find the Old Town Museum but we were almost out of the city before we eventually found it! It was really cute...4 musueums built into one, all housed within a lifelike old fashioned town...the car museum was really cool and I got a chance to ‘drive’ a pretty pink Cadillac! Yeahhhh!

One thing we both disliked about the museum was the scary mannequins! They were terrifying...i don’t know where the museum got them from but omg were they scary! One of the museums was a Farm and Ranch museum (we thought of you Ben Ben!!!) which was fun. It had the cutest (and i mean the CUTEST) old man working in it...Jess and I wanted to just ship him back home! Jess and I also took turns at some woodwork...not very successfully! Haha my attempts at putting a nail in a block of wood were shocking..i think i would have been there all day!

After leaving Elk City we drove along the old route through tiny towns called Erick and Texola....so tiny, especially Texola which maybe had 2 buildings...we drove through until the Texas border and merged back onto the interstate. You could really tell we were in Texas....the land/scenery was really dry and dusty and there were signs along the road saying "Don’t Mess With Texas"....ahhh.

As we were nearing Amarillo we drove through areas that were completely burnt along the road (we didn’t know if it was intentional or not but it was kinda crazy). We decided to go straight to the Palo Duro Canyon before the hotel so we headed south. The canyon was beautiful! Jess was really vocal about it lol....gonna be interesting when she sees the Grand Canyon! We drove along the whole route through the Canyon and on the way back through a mountain goat decided to jump out into the road and climb up the little cliff face! thankfully Jess was paying attention so he lived to see another day. He was so bouncy and fun! Lol good old billy goat.

We headed back to the city and went to the hotel...which turned out to be the wrong hotel.....lol so as we were near by we decided to go for dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch (featured on Man VS.Food). The place was really cool and all the people working there were dressed in authentic cowboy attire...Court and Erin I think you got it right with the cowboys...all the guys looked AMAZING ;) lol. The place had lots of really quirky things and Jess and I got to sit in a giant rocking chair....it was quite tricky to get in and out of gracefully...especially when people were watching us!

Whilst we were there 3 men decided to take of the challenge...they had to consume a 72oz steak, baked potato, shrimp cocktail, salad and bread within an hour....pretty insane! If they completed it they got it free and won $100! If not, they had to pay the $73 bill! They had to sit on a raised table in the middle of the room so everyone could watch them! Lol. 2 of them (that started when we got there) were not able to complete the challenge and the 3rd (that started just before we left) hadn’t finished by the time we left so we don’t know how well he did but he looked like he could do well.

Jess and I both got 9oz steaks (yeah i know – bet you cant believe i ate it). But i gotta say I even struggled with that...i was stuffed and i barely ate any of the sides...food definitely won. Adam Richman would be ashamed of me...

Xoxo
