Greyhound coach – Toronto to Detroit 1am - we managed to get two cheeky seats each so tried to sleep until we got to the border, but not the comfiest I've got to say.

Border control was such a slow process, especially at 6am. So tired...we’ve definitely both looked better. The women we had at CBP (Customs and Border Protection) were a little too Srgt. Major like with their 21 questions. Especially to a tiny sleep deprived little soul (me) and one who didn’t have the energy to fight for her ticket home back (Ness)..don’t worry Ness got it back – she will be returning to Canada. (lucky)

Thankfully Iggle Piggle didn’t get frisked on the bag search outside afterwards.

Really grey wet and dreary in Detroit, made a friend in the coach station. A pleasent wise old man, with bright white hair, pretty funny and full of facts. Ness enjoyed the high five goodbye (TOO COOL).

7:55am coach Detroit – Chicago.

Don’t know if its because of the different weather, but can tell we’re not in Canada anymore and are travelling through the States instead – it is probably due to the kind of people aswell...so far the nice ones have been really nice and the not so nice ones have been pretty scary. Still love it all the same! Feels surreal being here at the moment.

Driving up to Chicago was not really what I expected – so so industrially for miles. Kind of cool when Ness pointed out the first site of Chicago...shadowy outlined city skyline in a cluster.

Our taxi driver from the station to hostel, Kudus – self proclaimed body guard – was loving Ness – his "African Queen" lol! Despite the fact she is very white and only lived there 2 years.....as a baby.

Was good getting to see different parts of the city from the station to the hostel. Its hard to get it into your head that you are still in the same city with how completely different and widespread each area is.

GetAway Hostel is gorgeous! Really modern and boutique like – glad we’ll be here for a couple of days! Got settled in and wandered down the street to Lincoln Park Lakeshore view and restaurants. Everything is so close by. It’s been really chilly here today and we managed to prolong our time out in the cold by walking up and down Clark Street three times before deciding on a restaurant.

Decided on Dunlays....really nice service and food. My eyes were definitely too big for my belly with my order of sides! Pretty funny getting the bill at the end...you know it must be a good drink when its only 50cents less than your main course!! (don’t worry mum this wont be happening with every meal)

Nessy is all sniffly and with a cold “brewing” as she put it (Dont worry Mummy Kliskey – I’ve bought her a multipack of Kleenex tissues and having to sacrifice Nessy cuddles for the moment to avoid getting ill too)
