After the volunteer experience we headed south for about 12 hours to a little Unesco listed town called Cuenca, with cobblestone roads, 3 rivers running through it and so many churches. We spent a few days cruising around town, walking the streets, eating lovely dinners, visiting the local modern art gallery (what a joke!), and taking in the scenes of this cute little town.
We also took a day to visit the local Cajas National Park, a lovely mountainous place with several trails running through forest, rivers and more barren landscapes. We took the bus (saving the 50 dollars each it took to book an official tour), although it was hard to catch a bus back. The park is named after the Kichwa word for cold passage, and it was certainly a change being cold again!
