Today we left our hotel in Langley and returned back to downtown Vancouver, we still had another day pass on our bus tickets and wanted to spend some time in Stanley Park. First we had to pick up breakfast which of course consisted of coffee, chai tea and my new favorite Timbits! Have no clue what I am going to do when I'm not in Canada anymore I have become addicted to Tim Hortons, their drinks are so good and I swear I want to bring home a truckload of their doughnut holes to keep in my freezer and pull out as needed when I am having Timmy Ho withdrawals. Anyways, I digress, after grabbing breakfast we headed downtown to Stanley Park and as it was Tuesday it was pretty easy to find a parking space and of course since it is the city they do charge. We strolled through their park area, then out to the sea walk with follows along the water. While there we took pictures of the famed Lions Gate Bridge that connects to North Vancouver. We ended up catching the Big Bus at the park there and planned to ride the rest of the route around the city, we figured it would run the remainder of this particular loop then back around to the park, so we left the car there and hopped on the bus to enjoy a relaxing ride around the city. There was quite a bit of traffic and delays around the city and after about 30 minutes on the bus the driver announced that this was his last loop and that the final stop would be in Gas Town, which is about 2 miles across town. Gee wish we would have known that before we left our car! So we decided to get off at the next stop and start making our way back on foot. There seemed to be no chance of snagging a cab since it was after work and every single one we saw had people in it, so we hoofed it to make it back to the car on time before the parking meter expired at 5:55, keep in mind it was 5:45. We ended up walking block after block clear to Stanley Park which is about 1.6 miles across town; we made it at about 6:10, 25 minutes of speed walking intersection after intersection. But no worries, made it to the car without any circumstances, yay us, not to mention we were pretty proud of the time we made. At any rate we did enjoy our time on the bus getting to ride around in the open air seeing the sights and people of Vancouver. After our exercise session we sat in the car relaxing in the a.c. and guzzling water until we cooled off then we made our way over to Jon’s grandparents. We spent the rest of the evening sharing about our day with them and telling them about whistler and the things we had seen. I think we may have even convinced them to ride around on the Big Bus sometime, provided that they pay more attention to the time schedule than Jon and I did today, that would make it a lot easier! We had a lot of fun hanging out with his grandparents hearing more of their stories and of their many moves from England, to India, to the east of Canada to central Canada and finally to British Columbia.  They shared many stories of their travels and how life was in different places, and recalled a good number of stories when Jonathan would visit a child, including one of him using a corn cob pipe like his grandfather (Papa). Another great day of exploring the city (at whirlwind walking speed) and visiting with his family, sadly tomorrow is our last full day in Canada before leaving on Thursday. It seems like the time is flying but we are having a blast.
