Today we made the trip from Crescent City to Coos Bay, Oregon. Before leaving Crescent City we had lunch at the Good Harvest Cafe. They had all sorts of things and so many vegan choices, and they were so polite. A coworker of ours (Lisa) would have been in heaven! After our wonderful lunch of clam chowder and sandwiches (and a chai tea for Vanessa) we drove around town and out to the pier to take some pictures of the Battery Point Lighthouse. The fog lifted enough to get some pretty good photos. We continued North on 101 toward Coos Bay and stopped a couple times along the way. We stopped at the border to take some pictures of the Oregon state sign. Another couple headed in the opposite direction stopped to take pictures of the California sign and were nice enough to take a picture of us in front of the Oregon sign. We also stopped at a Fred Meyers in Brookings to get Jon a sweatshirt (that he probably won't need again until Canada) and a few other provisions. The no tax thing definitely makes a difference, damn you Cali!! Oregon is so beautiful along the coast, so green and lush. We stopped along the beach and used the timer on my camera to snap a picture of us; if you can see the blanket the camera is propped up on in the pic oh well, that's what you get when a couple travels without a tripod (oops!). The beaches are beautiful, they are craggy and haunting with the fog that just never seems to burn off. We reached our motel in Coos Bay around six, the Super 8. It's really nice it seems to be newly remodeled. We relaxed for a bit and Jon researched area eats and scored again by choosing the Shark Bites Cafe. They had an amazing Lox crostini, I also enjoyed a crab cake salad, and Jon wolfed down his halibut and chips. Guess it was good, right? Seems like this travel blog sure does feature a lot of food, what can we say, big surprise! Onward to Beaverton/Portland tomorrow.
