Gettin' the heck outta Dodge, First day of our trip to Canada (or the mother land as Jonathan jokes), we left Merced at approximately 7:30 a.m. and began our journey to our first stop: Crescent City, California. We decided to make our trip up a scenic and chose to travel along US 101 so that we can see all the West coast has to offer. We had so much fun and saw so many beautiful things. We made very good time from Merced to Crescent City, but we stopped a few times along the way; so nice to have so many days to do so. We stopped around Willits for lunch, served to us by a man wearing purple eye shadow and sporting pink acrylic nails! We continued on along 101 to the "World Famous" Chandelier drive through tree, it was huge! We watched several cars go through with their mirrors folded in and had a laugh as a man in an Escalade attempted and then aborted his mission prior to paint loss. Considering the car still has paper plates we decided not to chance it, and instead asked an older couple to take apicture of us standing inside the tree. When we looked at the pictures after we could not believe the difference being on vacation makes, we look so relaxed and happy! While there we bought a magnet at the gift shop and decided to get one for each place we go to commemorate our trip. As we continued on we stopped in Trinidad, Ca. and saw the fog bell and the lighthouse there. Later on when I called mom and told her about the trip, she was excited to hear we stopped at the lighthouse and told me that she and dad took a picture together in front of it when they were 16 and going to Canada with Grandma and Grandpa Noya. Cool to follow along the same path they did and see the same things. We continued on through Eureka, Ca. getting to see the Trees of Mystery with big Paul and his blue ox attracting tourists, though we did not stop then we may on the way back. Finally we reached Crescent City and our motel the Front Street Inn, with an ocean view, though with the fog there wasn't much to view. We ended our evening with a seafood dinner at the Chart Room in town. We shared a bread bowl of clam chowder, a calamari steak sandwich, and a seafood platter with prawns, cod, and the biggest scallops we’ve ever seen. All of it delicious, however we did feel a bit out of place among a room full of people clad in neutral colored sweaters and pants while we featured sandals, shorts and hot pink and blue shirts!  We decided to document our travels with this blog however due to wifi difficulties our entries may be somewhat sporadic, but we are excited to write about all that we are seeing and doing. Next stop Coos Bay, Oregon!

Today's Totals:
-Total number of miles traveled: approx. 485(roughly including time we checked out attractions off 101)
-Total number of license plates spotted, 9:California, Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Nevada, British Columbia, and Alberta
-Total number of fast food employees named Kenny wearing bright purple eye shadow and hot pink nail polish…1
