Where I stayed
The start of the real driving begins today. We are trying to pull at least a 10 hour drive before we rest up. That will hopefully bring us to New Orleans for the night. Who knows what the road holds ahead of us though. All I know is I had a good breakfast and a huge cup of coffee that's supposed to settle my nerves. (yea that won't happen). I can only hope that when the adrenaline wears off I'm not completely exhausted because I had a hard time sleeping in anticipation for taking the first big steps out of the state I have always lived in. But here goes nothing. The bikes have been re-secured and I am ready to hit the road!!

The trip was kind of horrendous. Well we did stop and get some fun pictures along the way. Javy and Missy even climbed up a billboard that was somehow really easy to get to. Most of the ride was done in heavy rain. It rained for 3 states!! I couldn't believe it. And to top it off the other drivers were unbelievable. Tailgating, speeding, and there was a car or truck in a ditch about every 20 miles. I wouldn't even be able to do that because at certain points the rain was so bad that it was like a white out. I could barely see anything but the flashing lights of Javy's hazards.
We did end up making it out of it though. All in one piece and the bikes intact. (we did end up stopping at one point to get bungee cords and strong pulls to keep that stupid bike rack in check)

This was a long day of driving. We ended up in New Orleans around 8:30p. That is over 11 hours of driving. But it was worth it with all of the things we got to see walking around French Quarter. We also had some good food at the Gumbo Shop. Highly recommend. Their Red Beans, rice and sausage was awesome!! Very filling. And their warm bread was to die for.
When we walked around we got to see all of the shops and oddly enough there were a multitude of strip clubs everywhere. It was kind of weird. The strip reminded me so much of Duval Street in Key West (or any strip in any party town honestly). We did run into this guy though on our way to eat that was from the Meals on Wheels for NOLA. He was pretty funny. We all got hats and stickers to donate and help out. I am kind of a sucker though when it comes to that kind of stuff. I can always spare a little to those less fortunate then myself.
We did see some great shops that all use the same gimmick of 'voodoo' to get you in the store and there were beads everywhere. I wouldn't expect anything less from the place that holds Mardi Gras every year!!
So we are back on the road now. Trying to make some headway to Austin and probably end up stopping somewhere on the way for a few hours to sleep and shower. (oh yes showers! What a luxury..)
Remember to check back every day to see what fun travels I get into on my way to California with my travel mates and you can also follow me on twitter: @Jess_DP!! Also, if you want to support please spread the word to you friends and you can help out and donate at the top left of the page. Anyone who donates will get souvenirs. Promise!! :)
