We have been heading up the coast of Peru. We saw some cool ruins in Chan Chan from a civilization called the Chimus that predated the Incans - it was a nice change. The Incans are a bit overrated, I think. There was a couple of temples and the City of Mud. There were lots of stinky cities along the drive, and stinky is an understatement. I think they fertilize the areas with lots of dead fish material, so Iīll let you imagine what thatīs like.
We finally arrived at Punto Sal, which is about an hour from the border into Ecuador. This little beach town is the favorite vacation spot of the president of Peru, so he has been seen hanging out at the shack next door to where we were staying. It was nice to have a day to relax on the beach. I went on three walks and two runs along the shore in the time we were there. There were three other overland trucks staying there at the same time so it was refreshing to have new people to interact with. Many of them will end their overland trips in Rio at the same time as me so we will prolly meet up again.
