K and I hardly slept, with a combination of excitement and the knowledge the alarm was going off at 3:30am, but we all managed to make it to the shuttle by 4:00am and off we were.

After a change of planes in lovely Detroit, we arrived in Seattle late morning, Sunday, to warm temperatures and crystal clear skies. This was our collective first time in Seattle.  After grabbing our rental car – a Subaru, which must be the official car for Washington State as they are EVERYWHERE – we headed downtown.  K had prepared a list of things to do, which easily exceeded our time, but we made the most of it.  Our hotel – the Sheraton – was lovely, and in the heart of things.  We were at the famous Pike Place Market by noon and eating a seafood lunch after watching the obligatory salmon tossing.  Later exploration around the market revealed the most amazing array (and SIZE) of seafood and vegetables.  To maximize time and distance now, we hit a "hop-on hop-off" double-decker bus, which allowed us to do a full circuit of THE sights of Seattle.  It is a beautiful city and so clearly tied to the Puget Sound.
