We left a glorious sunny Cairns early in the morning.  First stop was Brisbane Airport, and we had to catch the train from domestic to international.  This cost us money as we were flying with Air New Zealand who are not part of the 'Qantas Friends'.  Still it was another experience and saved lugging the bags or catching a taxi.

From Brisbane we flew first to Auckland.  What a shock as the weather there was cold and it was raining heavily.  We thought the airport lounges would be warm but no we were both cold so we treated ourselves to a new jumper each - both with Kiwi logos, and the colour of the jumper is black too.  Air New Zealand was a pleasant experience, the food was very good.  It was a long flight though, and we had to stop at Los Angeles for 2 hours.

Los Angeles airport what can i say.  Even though we were in transit meant we had to queue to be fingerprinted and eye photographed for Homeland Security.  We then had to be escorted back to a room for the rest of the waiting, water and snacks laid on free of charge, before we were allowed to board the plane again.

Next stop was Heathrow, England's old, dirty, very busy airport.  Quite frightening if you think about it all those airplanes one behind the other waiting to land, and it's the same for those waiting to take off.  A stay at Premier Inn was already booked and very welcome after a 24 hr plus flights.  Food and bed plus sleep was really needed.  Tomorrow we have the bus journey back up to Stoke.
