it was only about 6am, but we got our first inclination as to just how mad our driver Jimmy was, when he told us all we were going for a dip in a hot tub in the middle of the desert!
When we eventually found the hot tubs, just huge metal tubs full of natural underground hot spring water, which were hidden amongst the desert bushes, we discovered two bikers were camping there! They didn't seem to mind sharing, after theie initial shock of 22 people suddenly descending on them from nowhere. We all got quite a shock when the biker climbed out of the tub completely starkers, and then proceded to sit on the edge of the tub, chatting away, smoking a cigarette, still completely naked!!! Gave us girls a good chuckle!
After an amazing dip in amazingly warm water, was virtually too hot to touch at source, we used the spade restroom method, which was fun as there was virtually no cover, being in the middle of an open deseret! Had breaky by the side of the bus, bagels, cream cheese and smoked salmon, and heaps of fresh fruit. We are on a veggie diet for the next 2 weeks, should prove to be interesting!
Back on the bus, drove through desert, desert and more desert! Damn these roads go on forever in America! Passed a couple of the coolest towns on the way. Austin, which was like something out of an old wild west movie. Almost looked like a ghost town!! Then Eureka (how cool is that for a name?). Again this was an old cowboy town, complete with saloons and the mozt amazing general store, which sold everything, and had hunting trophies all around the walls, everything from deer heads, to complete bear skins!!!!!
Swam in our first reservoir, were desperate for somewhere to cool off by this point. Was funny when bus drivers nearly drove off the edge of a cliff trying to turn the bus around!
Reservoir was minging, and covered us all in minging green algae, but hey it was cold
Spent the evening at a place called Jackpot - can you tell we are near Las Vegas????
Everywhere in Nevada - not that there are many places! - has slot machines and the opportunity to gamble! Watching people gamblong in the supermarket is so hilarious!
Ate at a lovely American/Mexican grill. Had the most humungous burger ever, and Neil had mexican as usual! Then watched some of our group lose their money on the slots, we were far too sensible for that, besides we are on a budget!
Back to the bus for another night drive
