On arriving in Columbia we needed to find somewhere to park, parking in most places appears to be 2hr free parking with towing in action if you do not return. However we found a parking spot by the park which had a meter and fed that. Columbia seemed to be a fairly old looking town with lots of parking space around the buildings, all the new buildings in town were high rise and seemed to be bank offices. As we were by the park we took a walk around it, the park itself was a large open space with a lake which was fed by what looked to be a man made waterfall. The park also contained a collection of the homeless of Columbia. On leaving the park we headed towards Main street and on the way passed the Goverors house, which at the time we did not know what it was and as such a friendly passing law enforcement officer was kind enough to give us a brief history including advising me of who George Washington was as i approached a statue to take a photo, using the the words 'That dude is George Washington' in response to me saying 'im gonna get a photo of that dude over there'. Also at the governors house was a bronze memorial which was kinda cool. The officer was kind enough to point us in the direction of main street so we headed that way, on main street we found a gift shop and i was able to purchase some south carolina based gifts to take home. After we had spent some time chatting with the gift shop owners we headed back to the truck as our time was almost up and we didnt want to risk being towed.
