Another couple of overcast and cold days in Cali. We had booked two whale watching trips in Monterey in the hope of seeing the worlds biggest animal - the blue whale. Unfortunately he didn't want to play ball, but we saw lots of humpback whales, dolphins and a Leatherback turtle which is the biggest (6ft long) and most endangered (only 600 left) in the world. It was massive.

We have realised we are whale snobs - whilst it was nice to see humpbacks, we were not that impressed as all they did was swim along and occasionally flick their tail up whereas when we saw humpbacks and orcas in Alaska a few years ago they breached a lot. Although the people on our boat today thought it was amazing so we were obviously very lucky in Alaska!

The sun came out in the afternoon on day 6 so we took the opportunity to drive down Big Sur to take in the spectacular views. We also did the 17mile drive so that Pete could visit the hallowed turf of Pebble Beach Golf Course and have his photo taken on the 18th green.

Last proper dinner tonight in Carmel as tomorrow we head to the national parks and start slumming it a bit in tents with pot noodles.
