Another weekend in London! My penultimate. With Aditya having talked up the prospects of partying real hard, we set about our business early on Friday evening, maybe a trifle to early. We caught up with some of his friends at a French restaurant called Circus which in its posh-ness ruined our appetites and we hung about a bit in the bar in the basement. Finding the surroundings a bit letting down as compared to our expectations for the evening, we then went to another posh bar called Beach Blanket Babylon. Once again finding the ambience a little too up market for party hungry hoodlums like us, we gave up for a while and decided to sample the burgers hailed as the best burgers inthe world at a place called '7'. I don't which came first - the place ran out of food or we out of place in our tummies, but after consuming a mega, stomach cramping burger each and desserts to boot, we toyed with the idea of going home. But after the food settled down, we ended up at Fabric. Boy, what a place! Set up like a labyrinth over 3 floors (or maybe more), it was a living, breathing creature. There was something for all palates. A live hip hop band, house music, a wild laser show, peddlers selling drugs at each corner and a crowd that seemed more like a mob ensured that the party spilled over from the floor to the loos as well! If you like the kind of place where dancing means not being able to distinguish your own limbs from others, it was definitely the place to be. After a couple of hours of trying to gel with the music, we gave up in exhaustion and headed back home, making a mental note of heading out later the next day than we did that day. Saturday came, and we decided to watch Superman - which I enjoyed as I was happy to find was not overdone with mind-numbing special effects and had an intriguing plot as well. We headed back home, exercised (yeah, these days 400 push ups is exercise for me!) for a while and headed out fashionably late - around 11. We first hit an 80's club called Inferno. I guess the place got its name from how hot it was inside and maybe because of the hot, cosmopolitan women the place seemed like a hotbed for. At around half past 2, we headed out to sample some street fare and then to end the night at a place called what else but 'The End'. After what seemed like an eternity waiting (made easier by the enthralling humor of a certain black guy) and what seemed like a fortune as a cover charge (16 quid) we were in and wow! The place was open till 7 and the music (trance) was nothing short of sheer genius. We kept going, going, and going, and made some acquaintances in the bargain.Boy! what a night. I had forgotten that with smoking and all the other vices I had domesticated, I still had the stamina to go at it for 4 hours non-stop (Yeah! you heard that right). We had what could only be called an early morning feast at a neighbouring Indian restaurant. And then we crashed. We got up in the afternoon and took the DLR to meet my cousin, Akhil at Canary Wharf. We spent a chilled out evening together, with Aditya and Akhil tempted to talk about work (they are both in the finance industry) had it not been for my rude interruptions. It was great finally catching up with Akhil after such a long time. Although it was much too short a time, mostly spent in getting reacquainted, it was fun. He shared his impressions about his recent trips to India and even though they were not too optimistic, I still have more than everyone's share of optimism. After that we came back, bumped into the set for the filming of an Indian movie starring Akshay Kumar and the former miss World (I think), Lara Dutta. Not figuring out much of what was going on, Aditya took me inside his office and I saw the trading floor of Deutsche Bank. It was all that I had made it out to be and more. Impressive! All in all a complete weekend.
