On my first afternoon in florence i walked into town and headed straight for the markets. its a full on tourist atraction with good quality leather everything and some slightly worse quality souveniers. i was fairly restrained, i invested in a few cheap murano glass pendants and some post cards. it was really fun though, i've really missed my retail therapy! i started the next day by spending an hour at the laundromat (cause i had absolutely no clean clothes left!) and after that i walked back into town to see the major sights of florence. i had lunch in the duomo piazza along with hundreds of other tourists and cheap sunglasses salesmen. then i climbed the 463 steps up the dome, the view from the top was amazing but it was a very steep walk up and even harder on the way down! then i cancelled out all my hard work by having a gelati! i walked through the narrow streets of the old town to the ponte vechio, an old bridge with shops and houses built along the edges, they're now all jewlery shops and a major tourist trap! i had a break at the palazzo and sat on the ground like everyone else and enjoyed the sun. then i walked back to the famous (facade of) santa maria novella and then back to the hostel via a gastronomia for some delicous bolognaise.
