carla dropped me off at monique's house in the morning and we all piled into the car to go exploring. first stop was in their town of woerden. we walked around for a bit seeing the church oma and opa got married in, the ancient roman relics in the underground carpark, the secret church, the boys school and the house oma grew up in (which is now a vet). then we drove along a narrow road (past their cheese seller) to the farm house oma's family moved to. it was a beautiful house and a very pretty area. we drove on to oudewater, ate our packed lunch and then went to a cafe for what turned into a traditional food tasting session! i don't remember the official name but we tried toast with ham, egg and cheese (which was actually really nice!) and croquets which were probably less healthy but doubly as nice! then we went for a big drive through the countryside, caught a ferry across the river and drove through another very cute town. it was so wierd to see land below water the water, it just looks wrong! then we stopped at (rough spelling) lovestein castle which used to be a prison. they had some old fashioned toys there (stilts, bowls, skipping rope, metal ring that you push around) which we all played with for a while!
