ah back in Thailand and away from the world of kitchens and cooking shit for people. it is nice to rejoin the real world once again....or at least the unreal life that passes for my real world lol. can you feel the joy radiating off of me? can u catch a glimmering view of my ecstatic happiness? i hope some of it can come your way because I'm feelin pretty fucking good right now.

it was a long and arduous trek here to Thailand but no complaints coming from me.  I had to sleep at the restaurant on my last night because my tent had gotten trashed by something the night before, so i was actually awake most of the night due to excitement and just wrapping some things up on the internet while i had it at my disposal (my last blog post was written at this time). i took 3 showers, had a ham sandwich and caught about 2 hours of sleep on the floor before it was time to get going to anchorage.

I had landed a ride to anchorage with a friend of mine whom i hadn't seen all summer so i fought through my exhaustion and caught up with him during the 4 hour drive to the big city.  he was actually driving the alcan (Alaskan Canadian highway....going to Indiana) so he bid me farewell in front of walmart and off he went on his 4000 mile drive. i had a little shopping to do before i left so i went into walmart and picked up a few things and then went over to the shopping mall and looked around, mostly wasting time.  it was about 3pm when i got dropped off but my flight didn't leave until 1am which left me time to see another friend whom i hadn't seen all summer but who lived in anchorage

Alan, my anchorage friend picks me up and we hang out for a few hours and he drags me to the "bush company" which is the biggest titty bar in Alaska.  i had not been in an American strip club in probably 15 years and i found it very amusing after having lived through the debauchery of pattaya and Cambodia.  $20 for a lap dance? what a joke the whole thing was....and of course the girls were much bigger then i was used to in Thailand lol.

i remember when i went to my first strip club when i was 16 and how i was just absolutely  amazed at the sights and movements and flesh. it was quite literally an eye opening experience but that was to be expected since i was a 16 year old boy who had had only a handful of sexual experiences and was eager for any chance to see more naked women. ah youth and the hormonal excitement that rages in all boys that age.  the people who kind of depress me are the ones who are 60 years old with a stack of dollar bills in their hands who have a glazed over look in their eyes. these guys are sad to watch. how lonely they must be to still subject themselves to unobtainable companionship.

I got dropped off at the airport at about 11pm and was soon at the ticket agent/machine.  let me just say here how much i hate the fact that the airlines are trying their damnedest to eliminate any human contact at all.  there was two people who were trying to keep an eye over 7-8 ticket dispensing machines.  having never used the damn things before i needed help navigating through it successfully.  all was well until she asked me to insert my credit card so i could pay $50 for my one check on bag.  now first of all, my check on bag weighed in at exactly 50.0lbs which is just fucking awesome. secondly, since i was on an international flight, i was allowed one bag for free.  unfortunately it seems that the united airlines training program consists of "whatever the computer says is fact"  the woman could not get it through her skull that i was not paying $50 since i was flying internationally and according to their website, it was free. what should have been a 1 minute conversation ended up taking about 15 minutes....Jesus Christ.

after all the hassle, i boarded onto a plane bound for Seattle. it was only a 3 hour flight and i was asleep before the plane took off. i was exhausted since i really hadn't slept for going on 2 days and when i landed in Seattle, there was chad, my high school friend who had driven from Oregon just to hang out with me for my 8 hour lay over.  we had not seen each other in 3 years and it was so nice to see him once again, although it was a bit scary how we were able to just fall back into our old personalities and jokes with out so much as a hiccup.

we went over to the space needle and took a few photos of that and then went down to the fish markets and took in the sights. of course we headed over to the very first Starbucks to get the obligational coffee (chad got one because i was too cheap lol). we did the tourist trail for sure and all the while, we were talking and catching up and i realized that though we have had our ups and downs over the 24 years I've known him, i truly missed the big guy.  those of you familiar with my blog will remember that he had come out to Thailand for his divemaster course but alas love had intervened and he ran back to Alaska following his heart.  this mystified me at the time.....he had only known the girl for a few months but that was enough i guess.  they are married with 2 kids now. weird how life takes us in different directions.

after the tourist bit we headed off in search of a toys r us. i was in dire need of a present for a 6 year old step daughter and this was my last chance before i left America.  while chad found it hysterical, i was a bit disorientated as i navigated the barbie isle for the first time in my life. who woulda thunk it eh?  life has definitely changed friends and neighbors but so far so good. i have entered into an entirely new and uncharted aspect of my life. i am moving forward cautiously and with care but this still didn't help me amidst all of the pink toys at the store.

it was sad to say goodbye to chad. a few hours is not enough time after 3 years but you have to take what is given to you and after a hug goodbye in front of the terminal, in i went for yet another security check.  i had worn all of my heaviest clothes because i was trying to get my bags to come in under weight so i had a belt to take off and big clunky shoes etc etc. so happy to be done with all of the security checks and now onto a plane for japan.  it was a 10 hour flight and i watched 1/2 a movie. i am usually a movie fiend on planes but i was so damn exhausted, i kept starting movies and then passing out 5 minutes into them. sleep, blessed sleep.

i arrived in Thailand at 11pm and checked into my hotel and then promptly passed out yet again. i was awoken at about 6am by IM knocking on the door and then coming in. so nice to see the wife AND to lie in a bed. we ended up sleeping most of that day but we have now moved on to chiang mai since IM has never been here before. i will write more later but on a quick note, we have had a little waterfall time, went and saw the long neck tribe which is from around these parts and since this is chiang mai, we have gone to countless temples. I'm a bit templed out but they are still beautiful. leaving for the home village tomorrow and then after a few days there, off to our home in khao lak and MI MI!!!!
