So let me describe how diving works here in the similan islands....this will be almost a verbatim copy of the briefing i give to my customers before their first dive with us.  there are usually 4 or 5 dive groups, each with their own dive guide.  we give the dive briefing upstairs and then 2 groups at a time will go downstairs to put on all of the equipment and step to the dive platform (where you jump from).  The captain will then pull the boat over the dive site and slow down to an almost full stop, but he will not tie up on a mooring line.  at this time a bell will sound and this signals that we are over the dive site and it is now safe to jump in.  the dive guides jump first and then the customers follow directly behind us, being sure that the area directly below them is clear of any other divers before they jump in.  That is how it is supposed to work.  yesterday someone did not check below them before they entered the water and a 200lb irish man jumped from a height of about 5ft directly after me....his 25lb aluminum tank hit me directly in the top of the forehead while i was about 1-2 feet underwater ( i had not surfaced from my entry yet).  i was basically knocked unconscious and my head split open in 3 different places.  my next memory was being dragged back to the boat and my equipment being stripped off of me before being taken up the ladder all the while spilling copious amounts of blood.  i was led to one of the vacant guest cabins where first aid and a neuro test was administered and then about an hour later we went onto the speed boat to head back to shore.  in the end i received 15 stitches to my head, a very sore neck and one hell of a headache.  i am out of the water for a few days due to the chance of infection so a forced couple of day holiday is now on my schedule.  i think i'm ok but i'm still a bit dizzy and anything concerning numbers just makes my head swim so i'm pretty sure i got a nice concussion to go along with the stitches.  moral of the story, always look below you before you jump into the damn water....one of the first things we teach open water students (intro level).

other then that was is new with me?  not too much is going on nowadays other then diving and looking at fish. i have been promoted to trip leader as i mentioned earlier and with that comes a whole new level of stress and bullshit that was never there before so i'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.  People always say to never make your hobby into your job because you will lose the love of the hobby.  i dont think i have lost my passion for diving but it definitely is not as carefree as it once was.

IM is doing well and enjoying her new found work which is nice.  she has made friends with a few coworkers who happen to be lady boys so that makes for interesting stories but hey, its thailand so its just one of those things you have to accept.  its weird how the transexual lifestyle is so open and accepted here.  you see them everywhere and they are just part of society which is a good thing i think.  to discriminate against people for things like that is just close minded.....then again to discriminate against anyone for any reason is pretty close minded so there you go.

i was about halfway through my day when i realized it was thanksgiving. not sure if it was my split cranium or just plain old forgetfullness.  i really would like to be at the thanksgiving dinner with the family, its one of the few things i miss while out here but sacrifices must be made.  its one of those things that people dont think about when they look at me and think i am living a dream life......lack of family and 15 stitches, happy turkey day!!  All this being said i would like to wish all of my famly and american readers a happy thanksgiving and i am thankful for all of your love and your friendship.  until next time....................
