vietnam is a pretty wild place to travel in I must say.  The other day Sari went over to the cu chi tunnel system while I went over to he market and got some great pictures of the innards of various animals.  there is something viscerally photogenic about other countries food markets and it leaves our sterilized super markets back home in the dust.  yes ours may be cleaner and won't kill you through botchelism but with that being said, we miss out on the excitement of buying food.  We decided that a flight from saigon to danang would be more economical then the train so we headed over to the airport with high hopes for vietnam airlines.  Well the flight wasnt too bad but trying to get on it was a serious pain in the ass because our ticket said gate 2....the departure board said gate 5 and the announcement over the intercom said gate 7.....we finally departed from gate 11.  The announcements in that airport were never ending with all the gate changes and I have to imagine that quite a few people miss their flights just due to the ever shuffling departure locations.

The flight itself wasnt too bad...i mean it lasted 45 minutes so how bad could it be really?  We arrived in danang at about 9:30 at night and went to the taxi stand to book our taxi and get our little slip of paper with the destination on it.  As we walked out to the taxi parking lot with the driver another taxi came screeching up and the driver jumped out screaming what I can only assume were vietnamese obscenities at the other driver.  As he is screaming he is grabbing our luggage and carrying it to his car.  There was almost a full blow incident but the original driver saw that it was going to be more trouble then its worth so he let his fare slip away with the suicidally aggressive driver.  Crazy shit.

We took the taxi to the small town of Hoi An which is outside of Danang and is very scenic and very quaint.  quite the difference from the hectic lifestyle of saigon for sure.  The vietnamese seem to be convinced that me and sari are husband and wife so when we went to the market here yesterday it was "buy this for your wife" endlessly lol.  a little uncomfortable for anyone not from appalacia I suppose.  The hotel we are staying in here is nice but a little run down but as long as the aircon works sari is ok with it lol.

We are having quite the time getting up to hanoi in time for the haolong bay cruise because all of the universities are on break now so all the buses and trains are sold out.  sari flew up to hanoi today and I am taking the bus tomorrow so we'll see how it turns out.  overall, trip is going ok with a few unexpected bumps in the road but I suppose these are the things that make the trip interesting and we can laugh about having to hitch hike to hanoi when we talk about this next year.  there have only been a few flesh wounds and no one has been killed as of yet.....that is all
