I was having a debate with myself the other day whether I wanted to celebrate songkron (thai new year) in bangkok and pattaya or head down to ko tao and do it there. ko tao is a great place to lay back and relax but their songkron celebration is limited to one day because of the lack of fresh water...all water is boated in or collected in sisterns.  in the end, i didnt want to wait around a week for songkron to kick off and IM and I ended up on ko tao.  in retrospect, great decision considering bangkok went up in flames and the protestors nearly tore pattaya apart but of course it was all put under control and pattaya is now enjoying their 14 days of water fights amongst half naked thai girls but I try not to think about that too much.
so my back has been quite the issue as of late.  as i mentioned in passing earlier, i really torqued it when i was carrying my dive bag to the boat the other morning.  i cant really describe the pain but for those of you who have had severe lower back pain, you know what hell i was enduring.
Luckily for me I have had little IM at my side and she has done quite the job of taking care of me.  on one side it is a bit embarrasing to have to be waited on but on the other, it was very helpful and prevented a lot of pain when i needed some water etc etc.  miracles come in small packages but she's about 100lbs which is midsized for thai girls....i'm not complaining.

when the dive boat returned to land (of course i went diving with the hurt back and actually had to work because they had underemployed for the day so I ended up with 2 customers instead of just fun diving) i went and got a massage but that didnt solve the problem and 2 days later i got fed up with the whole thing and went to the 1 doctor on the island.  after making sure that i hadnt slipped a disc he gave me a shot of anti inflammatory med right into the racketball sized knot at the base of my back.  he also gave me muscle relaxers, anti inflammatory pills and a shit ton of codeine.  i medicated myself into oblivion and now my back is pretty much A OK....still a little pain but nothing that is going to lay me up in bed for weeks.  the doctors visit and all the meds cost me about $30 so obviously thailand is not following americas model of making health care for the wealthy only.

i got  a bunch of responses to my post about the catholic church and the protestors in thailand.  it seems that alot of people believe that coming across as angry or confrontational is wrong even if  I was indeed angry at the popes condom statement and was really pissed off over the thai demonstrators.  all i can say in my defense is that there are over 200 posts on this old blog o' mine and the vast majority are pretty light and chipper and happy but this blog does serve as a way to communicate what i'm thinking and feeling with the world at large and to be perfectly honest i'm not always light and chipper and sometimes i'm downright pissed off and if i happen to remember why im pissed off (not always a given) then i will relate it in my blog.  for those of you who are only looking for the happy go lucky fluff, go check out the blogs that disney offers or the vast majority of blogs on the travelpod site.  for those of you who are interested in real life, with ups and downs and good and bad then i encourage u to read my blog and to add yourself to my mailing list so you can keep up to date with the goings on in my strange little world......and thats all i got to say about thaat (insert forrest gump voice).
