I have had quite a bit of free time on my hands as of late, what with there being no tourists in S.E. Asia and therefore no diving industry.  i've had time to lounge and relax and contemplate and that is never a good thing.  The last thing my brain needs is free time.....this is how i get into trouble and end up doing long stretches of prison time.  Sometimes i'm just too damn clever for my own good.  im going to be in alaska this summer and read this blog and lust after the down time that i am enjoying now

So you may ask "what is new and exciting neal? what crazy shit have you gotten yourself into now?" and the answer would be nothing lol.  im just kind of existing right now but this is not a bad thing....you can only run around and live a crazy life for so many months and years before you finally just scream "enough, give me the house and the dog and the 2.4 children because if i see one more fucking beach im going to gouge out my eyes".....HAHA yeah right.

i got to thinking yesterday (you see a pattern to this blog post?).  I have one biological sister and then have a step brother and sister with whom i am very close to and feel as if they are my actual biological siblings.  we all shared the same upbringing mostly (from age 12 for me at least) and were raised in the same way.  so now flash forward 20 years (jesus christ) and my two step siblings have the house and cars and husband/wife and of course there are children involved with all of this.  as for me and my sister, well she is pretty sucessful but spends more time traveling then in a relationship and me....well im not really successful but i sure can travel lol.  Sari, my sister, has been to 6/7 continents and has seen the sights over the years but i dont THINK there is much interest in having the traditional nuclear family...the same can be said for me.  i just find it strange how different we all turned out.  brings up the old argument over nature v. nurture all over again.  I really think that there is a bit of the "wandering jew gene" in my DNA.

i really am so happy that i have my alaska gig in the summers.  the tourist industry is in such shambles right now, a lot of my friends are hurting because of the lack of work.  thailand has really dug themselves a nice little grave here and it will be interesting to see if they can actually find a way out of the mess.  im sure if you give them a couple of years they will get their shit together but at the moment, things are not pretty.

I am quickly approaching quite a few milestones this year.  I have surpassed the 20,000 hit mark on my blog and it only took about 2 years.  i thought i was doing pretty good until i was talking to one of the admin people for this website (i have become too deeply involved with the travelpod world) and she showed me the top performing blogs........top guy has 700,000 hits.....bottom of the top 10 has 150,000.  i have quite a ways to go i guess.  May 1 will also mark the 10 year anniversary for my arrest on a myriad of drug charges.  i suppose i should tell that little tale....if i remember tomorrow i will...its a pretty interesting web of deceit and a large pile of manure all mixed into one story.  its funny how life works though, since if i had never gone to prison i most probably would never have come out to thailand.  my step mother likes to say everything happens for a reason but im not a big believer in that.  that is predestination and if that is the case you have to ask why the hell even bother if everything is already decided upon for you?  thats one of the many problems i have with christianity.....they are big believers in "god's plan" and the bible verse that says god knows you from he beginning to the end before you are even out of the womb. if this is the case then isnt prayer a waste of time?  you are asking god to change his grand plan because you dont want to die of cancer? and if god knows you from beginning to end he already knows he's not going to change the plan so why bother praying at all?  reason #484 that i belive christianity is waaaaaaay off base.  if anyone has it right i think it would be the animilists....spirits and life force in everything and respect for all of life....seems much more plausible then some of the other crap we are force fed.

Great Blog, Neal, it is a bit addicting i must say, great stories and travels, Ive been reading this for several hours now and was wanting to know, did you visit HMC in your travels, and how does it compare to BKK. Im getting ready to go over there, should I go to Thailand as well?

Just need some pointers, on how to do, for long haul travels if you have time to email me. gdnet1@hotmail.com

Thanks,
