oh how the time groweth short.....the shadows fall long upon the pavement and the light grudgingly gives way to the darkness.  the summer of my discontent is upon me and bearing down like a slow moving locomotive.  whenever i describe my situation in the world to people..the 3 months of work and the 9 months off...it always seems like such a great deal, that life has dealt me a very strange and yet intriguing set of cards.  then April rolls around and its as if some alarm clock goes off....an industrial sized klaxon ringing forth through my conscious thought as an ever present reminder of my limitations in paradise.  is it better to have sat on a beach and lost then to never have sat on a beach at all?

i arrived in bangkok the other night...nothing better then a 4am driving rainstorm to wake you up and get your blood pumping.  after getting the bags and heading over to kho sahn road i sat in one of the many all night establishments and relaxed and had myself a coca cola.  the funny thing was that there were these two people who were sitting at the table next to me.....a boy and girl who had just arrived in Thailand and i could not help but over here some of the conversation of their plans.  it was kind of amusing because they obviously had no idea about the geography of the country (hard to do a day trip to phi phi from samui since its about a 10 hour trip) and had no idea about the hassles that lay before them "I'm going to go and get my Vietnam visa today" (takes 4 days unless you want to pay double then it takes 2).  i thought about trying to help them out with their various misguided plans but thats half the fun.  I'm still running into brick walls and pains in the ass and its going on 3 years.  i figure they can handle it.

so I'm down to 3 days and then 35 hours in transit.  the true joy is that when i land in Alaska, i get to hitch hike 300 miles.  not that big of a problem but I'm going to be in a foul mood after that long ass trip and I'm not landing until 7pm and as we all know, hitch hiking at night is almost impossible.  i see a nights sleep in a bush in my near future.......WELCOME BACK TO REALITY NEAL.
