so i finally got off of ko tao and am in bangkok for a day or two before heading over to cambodia for the new year.  i figure spending new years eve in cambodia will be an interesting and new experience and that thailand has too much of a monopoly on the great commodity known as neal.  so whats new and exciting you may ask.....well my underwater housing decided to leak and my nikon digital camera went for a 30 meter deep dive at chumpon pinnacle....note to self....salt water and digital photography equipment are meant to be kept seperate and if possible, at arms length from each other.  one of the girls that was doing her divemaster training at the same time as me decided to get dci (decompression illness) and had to go to ko samui to spend the night in the recompression chamber ($800 an hour).  we all doubt she really had dci because the dive she was on was 10 meters and we followed all the rules etc....probably was just dehydrated and felt like shit but either way her insurance company gets quite a bill now dont they?  The kicker of it all is now she's afraid to go back diving and cant complete her dmt course.  not the brightest bulb on the tree i suppose but oh well.  im figuring to finish my dmt after my sister leaves and then start working a little bit at the dive shop that im taking my course through.  2 out of 3 of their divemasters are going to take their instructor course in january so they will be short handed, alas money for neal.  im definitely getting better with the diving though.  i feel very comfortable in the water and with all the equipment and i kind of laugh at the new people who are scared shitless buti have to remember that was me once also.  now if i can just perfect the underwater navigation ill be in business.....much harder then it sounds

Salt Water
Salt water or actually any water and camera's don't mix(unless the camera is specifically for underwater)!Sounds like your diving is going great!
Have a HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Dad
