it was such a cultural transition to cross over into hong kong after spending a few weeks in china. the stores and buildings are modern, the kids have the freedom to dress in fashions that will be looked back upon and laughed at in a few years. girls wear make up and dresses and there is even a rolls royce dealership downtown. i was only in hong kong for 2 days but it made a big impression on me as far as how a bustling city should take shape. it was mostly little things like protecting old trees and having a small army of turtles floating around in the parks pond but also the elevated and covered pedestrian walkway is ingenious since it gets the walkers above the congested streets and also provides a roof over their heads so they can continue to shop and go to work without getting caught out in the weather. this walkway runs the length of the city and i found in immensely useful.

well im back in thailand and let me just assure the masses, i have found heaven on earth and have no intention of leaving lol. the thai new year is this week and its called "songkrom" or the "water festival". it all started out with the ritual bathing of the buddha statues on the new year as a sign of respect etc etc. somewhere along the lines it has transformed itself into the largest watergun fight in the history of the world. its to the point that you dont leave your hotel without planning on being drenched to the bone for the rest of the day. it may sound a bit annoying but the only thing to do is buy a gun or two and take part in the festivities. the thais are usually pretty reserved folks and dont express themselves too much so its really fun to sit back and watch people of all ages just go crazy with the water. all the city water trucks are on duty to fill up hotels and bars giant coolers of water and if the bar pays an extra dollar they get huge blocks of ice put in the water to make it absolutely freezing to the poor bastard that gets a bath in it.

see this all sounds fun and innocent enough and i truly believe that america needs some holiday like this where all the generations get together for a day and just let loose with a few water guns and hoses. of course we're too uptight to actually get around to doing this and the amount of lawsuits for being shot in the eye or falling down in the water would prevent any real sort of fun from taking place but its a nice thought......anyway, this all sounds nice but what makes it heaven you may ask? well to be perfectly frank and honest with you, at the moment i am in pattaya (or as chad calls it...."the bad place") and for the last 3 days i have been having quite a spectacular water fight with beautiful girls who are 3 quarters undressed and dripping wet. it has now officially replaced disneyland as the happiest place on earth, take my word for it.
