ive set up a temporary base camp here in the foothills of the BIG mountains. i travelled to sikkim which is the northern province on the tibetan border. had to go and get a special permit because its quasi off limits to foreigners due to india paranoia over china and pakistan. in the end it was all well and good but it was just darjeeling without the charm really. we went up to this lake at 12,000 feet for a day trip and that was really nice and peaceful (other then the guys trying to sell yak rides). lots of prayer flags flapping in the wind and plenty of hot chai (heavily sugared tea) to keep me warm in the cold weather. I really am tired of the mountain roads up here. if you arent buried in clouds then its beautiful but they are all one lane and everybody is trying to pass each other around blind curves. add to that the constant indian "indigestion" and it makes for a long ride for sure. lots of monkeys along the side of the road and in darjeeling, just whole troops walking about and its pretty fun to watch the babies get into trouble. really im just kind of hanging out and enjoying life...no hurry i suppose. nepal in about a week or so
