Oh my God...I had an amazing week of food in Ireland!
As I said Anne made a huge feast the day AFTER Christmas, went to Howth and had my first taste of mouthwatering seafood and there is more to come in the next couple blogs!
Melanie and I headed to Howth as it was a place I had yet to explore and she knew I was really craving seafood. We walked along the pier and saw the sad looking seals that hang out in the harbour and got a great view of the town as it goes up the hill.
We walked into the tour office to get recommendations on places to eat and the lady said pretty much anywhere, just depends on your budget. We ended up at the place I mocked because of its name, Octopussy. It's a tapas joint with a great view of the pier if you can get a window seat, which we snagged.
Mel said she wasn't much of a seafood person but by the end of our mouthwatering meal she was converted! We shared Dublin prawns, gambas (like prawns) and a grilled seabass with a bottle of wine and it only cost us €48. For Dublin costs at a restaurant for great food that is a steal!!!
We hit Wrights Findlater for dessert since we were starting to get a bit loud for the small atmosphere we were in....had nothing to do with the bottle of wine and only seafood we ate all day. But do NOT think that had any influence on my opinion of the food!
Finally, before heading back to Dublin on the DART we stopped at the Bloody Stream for a pint. I thought I would try ordering my Crown Float there since they were small and I could tell them how to make it...nope! Told them and ended up making them myself. The one bartender just poured the Guinness tap like it was a regular beer and made it foam all over and the second bartender said he knew how to make them but ignored my request and made me do it myself…..again!! It is not difficult to put Guinness on top of cider....I've done it myself many times people....just need to have a little patience is all. You have to wait for a Guinness to settle anyway...but I digress.
Cheers to a fun filled day with Mel at another town I can cross off my list to see!
Love, live, laugh!
